Creative Craft: Adding Tatting Lace for Kids Dress with Love
Designing outfits for little ones is always special — even more so when every detail is made by hand. I recently created this adorable yellow and purple dress set for my niece, adding delicate tatting lace for kids dress hemline and matching handmade hair clips.
Here is the dress:

The Inspiration
Kids’ fashion should always feel light, cheerful, and full of innocence. I chose a soft yellow cotton fabric for comfort and paired it with a purple floral top to bring in a playful contrast. To complete the look, I decided to add a handcrafted border — tatting lace, one of my favourite lace-making techniques.
This is a beautiful , cute short. On the edges I have attached the handmade lace.

I have selected a simple lace. The same lace pattern I had used to design one of my sarees. I love this pattern as it is very easy to make.
The lace was made using fine Anchor cotton thread tkt 20 in a matching purple shade. I used small picots and rings to form a neat, scalloped edge, which was then carefully hand-stitched along the shorts’ hem. The result is a subtle yet charming detail that gives the outfit a classic handcrafted finish.
To make it even more fun, I created tatting hair clips with matching colours — floral motifs attached to simple black clips, adding a cute coordinated accessory for my niece’s outfit.

On receiving this she is very happy and the same day she worn it for a party 🙂 The combination of bright yellow and violet, along with the handcrafted lace and accessories, made this outfit truly one-of-a-kind. Seeing my niece twirl around happily in her new dress made every knot and loop worthwhile!
