Exploring Tatting Designs – Trying Out Some Tatted Motifs
Tatting is one of those timeless crafts that never fails to fascinate me. Every knot, loop, and ring weaves a delicate rhythm — and with each experiment, I discover new possibilities in thread art. In this post, I’m sharing some of my latest tatted motifs, each one unique in color and pattern. I have many shuttles already wound wirh threads. I have to empty that shuttles to try new projects. As part of that tried these motifs.
Multicolor Square and Circular Tatted Motifs

The four motifs
I started with small square tatted motifs using colorful threads — perfect for trying new joining techniques and color combinations. The mix of pink, blue, green, and violet threads gives each piece a cheerful, playful vibe.
The round tatted motif in pastel shades was a joy to make — I love how the colors blend seamlessly, almost like a rainbow captured in lace. These motifs can be joined later for coasters, bookmarks, or even appliqué on kids’ dresses, adn sarees too.
Blue & Aqua Round Tatted Motifs

Round motif
These one is round tatted motif, worked with fine thread in soothing blue and aqua shades. The outer rings give a floral feel, making them ideal for doilies or layered decorations. I have used two backgrounds ,as I wanted to show the colors properly. This is in lighter sahdes.
Teal Lace Tatted Motif: Magic square:

The magic square motif
This tatted motif was an experiment in continuous joining — a rectangular piece created without cutting the thread. The pattern can easily be extended to make table runners or lace edging.
The teal color adds elegance, and the repetitive pattern gives it a woven look — perfect for exploring new layouts in tatting projects.
Every tatted motif I create adds a new dimension to my understanding of the art form. From tiny squares to large round designs, each experiment feels like a step forward in mastering tatting. I plan to explore 3D motifs and layered floral designs next — stay tuned!
