Introduction to This Dasara Parchment Art Project
This is a wall decor I created for this Dasara. I keep making Durga painting in different art forms. This time created this parchment art Durga wall art.
I had planned to create a few handmade cards for the festive season of Navaratri and Deepavali. My intention was to complete this parchment art project before the beginning of Navaratri. However, three days ago, my mother was hospitalized in my native place, and naturally my attention shifted towards her health and well-being. Thankfully, she is now recovering, but I am still concerned and praying for her speedy recovery.
Navaratri is one of the most auspicious festivals celebrated by Hindus across India. Although each region celebrates it in its own unique way, Navaratri brings to mind the grand Durga Puja of West Bengal, the vibrant Dandiya and Garba festivities of Gujarat, and the magnificent Mysore Dasara of Karnataka. I would like to wish all my readers and friends a very Happy Navaratri.
This artwork is created using parchment craft, a beautiful and elegant paper art technique that involves embossing and perforating special parchment paper to create intricate lace-like designs. I am still learning and practicing this fascinating art form, and each project helps me explore new techniques and improve my skills.

What is parchment craft?
Parchment craft is a delicate paper art technique in which special parchment paper is embossed, perforated, and decorated to create intricate lace-like designs. Using embossing tools, the paper is gently raised from the back to produce beautiful three-dimensional effects. The finished artwork often resembles fine lace and is commonly used for greeting cards, wall hangings, bookmarks, and decorative art pieces.
In this Goddess Durga artwork, parchment craft techniques were used to create embossed details, giving the face, crown, and ornamental motifs an elegant three-dimensional appearance suitable for Dasara celebrations.

Note: For beginners, parchment paper, an embossing tool, a perforating tool, a mat, tracing paper, and a pair of fine scissors are sufficient to start creating simple parchment craft projects.
Why I Chose the Durga Design
The first reason for choosing the Durga design is that this artwork was created during the Dasara season. Every year, I try to create at least one artwork inspired by Goddess Durga, as she symbolizes strength, courage, and the triumph of good over evil.
Another reason is that parchment craft is primarily a Western art form, and Indian themes are rarely explored in this medium. I wanted to blend the elegance of Western parchment craft techniques with traditional Indian artistic elements. By choosing Goddess Durga as the subject, I hoped to create a unique fusion of Western craftsmanship and Indian cultural heritage. This project allowed me to experiment with a traditional Indian design while learning and practicing the beautiful art of parchment craft.
