Quick Tatting Doily Project: Small tatting doily
This is a small tatting doily I made recently.

Small tatting doily
If you are looking for a quick and satisfying tatting project, this small decorative doily is perfect. The combination of bold blue and fresh green gives it a vibrant, modern look while still maintaining the elegance of traditional lace. This design works beautifully as a table accent, under a decorative item, or even as a handmade gift.
Why I Made This Doily
Over time, I ended up with many tatting shuttles, and quite a few were still filled with leftover threads. Before starting a new project, I needed to free up some empty shuttles.
Instead of unwinding or wasting the thread, I chose a more creative approach—using these threads to make small doilies and lace designs. It turned out to be a quick and satisfying way to use leftover thread while creating something beautiful.
The Design Selection
While browsing through different tatting patterns, I came across this design and immediately liked it. It was small, elegant, and perfect for a quick project.
I didn’t spend much time thinking about the thread colors. I simply picked green and blue—one combination that almost always works beautifully together. The contrast between these two colors gives the doily a fresh and eye-catching look.
Challenges I Faced in the Design
Initially, I thought this would be an easy project since I have already made a few small doilies. However, the final round turned out to be more complicated than expected.
I often forgot to include the side rings, which led to mistakes. A few times, I had to cut the thread, rejoin it, and continue working. This happened two to three times, making the piece slightly untidy.
Still, despite these small imperfections, the doily looks quite attractive—thanks to the vibrant color combination. 🙂
