Tatting Lace Fashion: Enhancing a Dress with Handmade Details
Introduction:
Tatting has always been one of my preferred choices when it comes to designing a saree or a dress. Whenever I have incorporated tatting laces or motifs into my designs, they have received a lot of appreciation. There is something timeless about tatting lace—it never seems to go out of fashion.
In my opinion, no readymade lace can truly match the elegance, delicacy, and beauty of handmade tatting lace. Every motif and every lace carries the charm of handcrafted work, adding a unique touch to the garment. Whether used on a saree, dress, kurti, or blouse, tatting lace enhances the overall look and transforms a simple outfit into something special.
This dress is one such example, where handmade tatting motifs and laces have been carefully placed to create a graceful and distinctive design.

Details of the dress
The fabric used for this dress is a soft pastel mint green with a self-embossed texture. Tiny golden and red motifs are scattered all over the fabric, adding a subtle charm and elegance to it.
I got the dress stitched in an A-line style with kalis, which gives it a beautiful flare and graceful fall. The inspiration for this design came from a dress I had seen on Facebook. I loved the overall concept and felt that it would look even more attractive when combined with handmade tatting motifs and laces.
With this idea in mind, I incorporated tatting lace along the panel lines and used tatting motifs as focal points on the front of the dress. The result is a unique handcrafted garment that beautifully combines contemporary fashion with the timeless art of tatting.

The tatted laces and motifs
For this dress, I used two different tatting lace designs and two different tatting motifs. Along the kali seams, I attached a simple tatting lace worked with variegated maroon and dark green Anchor thread. The colour combination complements the tiny motifs on the fabric and adds a beautiful handcrafted touch to the dress.
The larger floral motifs used on the front panel are from a pattern by Tat-A-Renda. Their intricate design makes them the focal point of the dress. To balance these larger motifs, I also used small five-petal tatting motifs, placing them at different locations on the dress.
The neckline is embellished with another simple tatting lace pattern. Though basic in design, it beautifully frames the neckline and ties together all the tatting elements used in the garment. The combination of delicate laces and motifs creates a harmonious design, making the dress elegant and distinctive.
Color Combination:
The fabric is a beautiful pastel mint green shade, decorated with tiny gold and red motifs spread throughout the fabric. To complement these colours, I chose a combination of variegated maroon-red thread and dark green thread for the tatting work.
Normally, I like to enhance my designs with sequins, kundans, beads, or other embellishments. However, for this dress, I wanted the focus to remain entirely on the tatting. The beauty of handmade tatting lies in its delicate patterns and intricate details, and I felt that adding extra embellishments would distract from its charm.
Therefore, I deliberately kept the design simple and elegant, using only tatting laces and motifs. The contrast of the tatting against the soft pastel fabric creates enough visual interest on its own, proving that handcrafted lace can be just as striking as heavily embellished designs.

This can be paired with simple silver jewellery or without any jewels , as a formal dress also look nice.This can be paired with dark green bottom , or marroon bottom.
