For this box, I wanted to try something different—a delicate doily effect to complement the decoupage design.
The Doily Effect: A Delicate Lace-Like Detail:

For this box, I used a doily-effect technique to create a delicate, lace-like pattern over the decoupage design. It is a time-consuming process, but one I thoroughly enjoyed. Painting, stencilling and carefully chosen colour combinations help bring the details together.
Colours and Designs I Chose
I chose blue for the top of the box, a lighter shade of blue for the doily effect, and white for the stencilling. Using light and dark shades of the same colour helped the delicate details stand out.
The decoupage paper features a lady adorned with flowers. Its green tones contrast with the blue background, adding interest to the design. To complete the look, I glued a vintage-style embellishment to one corner.

Crackle effect is another technique that works beautifully with decoupage. I used it on the sides of this box to give the surface an aged appearance. Crackle mediums are available from various brands, each with its own instructions for application. The fine cracks complement the design and add to the box’s vintage look.
How the Details Come Together
The details
The doily effect, white stencilling and floral decoupage design have come together beautifully on this box. The lighter blue highlights the delicate doily pattern, while the green in the paper contrasts with the blue background. The vintage embellishment on the corner and the crackle effect on the sides complete the look. Each detail adds its own charm, and I enjoyed seeing them come together.

This is a jewelry box. But I will be using it for storing the embroidery floss.
