Embroidered Fabric Saree Design with Lace Border – Simple Yet Rich Saree Makeover
Nowadays, the market offers a wide variety of fabric options, which is truly a boon for designers. Among them, embroidered fabrics stand out for their elegance and versatility. They provide endless inspiration and open up numerous design possibilities.
I came across one such beautiful fabric—beige in color, with delicate self-embroidery featuring rose motifs spread across the entire surface. The subtle texture and understated design of the fabric itself inspired me to create a saree that enhances its beauty without overpowering it.

The embroidered fabric
One of the biggest advantages of using embroidered fabric is that it reduces the need for additional work on the body of the saree. The fabric itself carries enough texture and detail, allowing the design to remain elegant without becoming heavy.
Lace Selection for Saree Border
Coming to the laces, I chose two beautiful options to complement the fabric. One is an off-white lace that closely resembles cutwork, adding a delicate and refined touch. The other is a rust-colored lace with a crochet-like appearance, which brings in a subtle contrast and depth.
While designing the saree, I primarily focused on the off-white lace, as I wanted to achieve a cutwork-inspired look. The idea was to enhance the existing embroidery and create a cohesive, graceful design without overpowering the base fabric.
Placement of the laces:
As mentioned earlier, my main intention was to highlight the off-white lace and create a cutwork-inspired effect.
To begin with, I trimmed the edges of the saree fabric along the border, removing about 2 inches. I then attached the off-white lace along the entire border, extending it neatly across the pallu as well. To enhance the look further, I added the rust-colored lace on both sides of the off-white lace. This layering created a beautiful contrast and gave the saree a refined cutwork appearance.

The laces attached along the border
While the border looked complete, I felt that the body of the saree needed a few subtle highlights. Initially, I considered adding mirror work in rust color. However, I later found a floral lace in my collection that complemented the design perfectly. I carefully cut out the floral motifs from the lace and placed them across the saree in a balanced manner. To finish the look, I added small pearls at the center of each motif, which brought in a delicate and elegant touch.
