Threaded Heritage: Kutchwork on Blouse
Kutchwork has always fascinated me with its geometric beauty and heritage charm. Recently, I worked on a maroon blouse, and I want to share both the process and the design details behind it. Rcently I had finished making one more blouse, with Kutchwork. That has many motifs on the sleeves. It took lot of days to make that. So this time , I preffered less motifs on the sleeves.
Design Highlights – Borders, Motifs, and Neckline Patterns
The overall blouse design
For this blouse, I chose a U-shaped neckline, because it frames the embroidery beautifully. I worked the neckline with green Kutchwork motifs, adding small pink floral stitches in between for a delicate contrast.
On the back, I arranged rows of pink diamond-shaped motifs, balancing them on both sides. To complete the look, I stitched green Kutchwork borders that connect the neckline and back motifs seamlessly. The result is a blouse that looks both traditional and elegant.

Color Story – Maroon, Green, and Pink
The base fabric is a deep maroon silk, which gives richness and depth. I paired it with:

Green thread for the bold outlines and main motifs.

Pink thread for the fillers and flowers.

This combination feels festive yet graceful, and it highlights the embroidery without overshadowing the blouse fabric itself.

This is a gift to my friend. She had given the fabric , she wanted my Kutchwork on her blouse.
Styling Inspiration –
This blouse is versatile. IThis can be paired with:

A plain maroon saree to highlight only the embroidery.

A beige or gold Banarasi saree for weddings or pujas.

Even a green cotton silk saree for a balanced festive look.
Jewelry-wise, antique gold matches the richness of the maroon, but oxidized silver gives it a more contemporary vibe.
Why Kutchwork Never Goes Out of Fashion
Every stitch in Kutchwork feels like a connection to our roots. What I love most is that though it’s traditional, when you apply it on blouses it feels timeless and adaptable. This blouse is special to me because it combines my creativity with a craft that has centuries of heritage. I am doing one more Kutchwork on saree.I will share about the same soon.
